Motivation is a crucial element in the learning process, acting as the driving force that propels students toward their goals. While external motivators like grades and rewards can spark interest, internal motivation—the inner drive to achieve and succeed for personal satisfaction—proves to be more sustainable and impactful in the long run. However, many students struggle with maintaining this internal motivation. Let’s delve into the causes, signs, and strategies to enhance internal motivation for a more fulfilling academic journey.

Motivation can be defined as the process that initiates, guides, and sustains goal-oriented behaviours. It’s what causes us to take action, whether to grab a snack to reduce hunger or to read a book to gain knowledge. When students are motivated internally, they engage in learning because they find it personally rewarding, not because of external pressures or rewards.
